Beaver Dams Take One!

Now that our Beaver research is complete, scholars worked in pairs to apply their knowledge to construct Beaver dams. Scholars brought in rocks, pebbles, twigs, sticks and leaves. They were given Model Magic to serve as mud. Each pair began the process by looking at their materials to come up with a plan for constructing. Next step will be to test our dams!

Mr Ferris And His Wheel Design Challenge

I had 3 scholars who accepted the challenge to create out of recycled and non recycled materials a ride at the amusement park. Way to go: Dalton, Hapi and Lucy, I am so very proud of you and your hard work!

The Winner is: Lucy!

Lucy's design of the Teacups ride was chosen as the winning design for the entire school. The scholars were to redesign an existing amusement ride or design a new ride using recycled materials and non recycled materials. The author of the book, Mr. Ferris And His Wheel, Kathryn Gibbs Davis was the judge. The trophy that Lucy received was made by a 5th grade student. The trophy is a working Ferris wheel made out Legos! We are so proud of Lucy!

Thank You, PTA!

Our awesome PTA made it possible for Cannon Scholars to meet the author of our latest STEM book, Mr. Ferris And His Wheel, Kathryn Gibbs Davis. Ms. Davis shared many interesting facts about Mr. Ferris and his wheel. We also learned that authors follow a process when writing that is very similar to the engineering design process!

Presenting Our 4th 2x2 Reader!
