Family STEM Night

Family STEM Night was fantastic! Everywhere you looked scholars and their parents were following their design plan for creating a structure to protect a flower from wind and hail. Every inch of the cafeteria filled even the floor! 'The family that engineers together has so much fun!'

We Love Books!

The Scholastic Book Fair is here! The scholars had the opportunity to check out some of books that are being sold at the book fair. Books make great Christmas gifts so please check out the book fair going on all this week!

Family STEM Night

Thursday, November 13 is Family STEM Night from 6 to 7 pm.
This will be a night filled with fun, hands-on STEM -based experiences. We hope to see you all!

Grapevine Fire Department

The Grapevine Fire Department made learning about safety fun!

Super Hero Cape Day

Another fun activity during Red Ribbon Week was creating a Super Hero Cape. Scholars were showing they could make healthy choices by being: Exercise Girl, Protein Guy and Veggie Boy to name a few.

Crazy Sock Day

As part of Red Ribbon week, scholars wore crazy socks to school.

Candy Bag Challenge

The scholars were given the challenge of designing and creating a trick-or-treat bag using either: foil, wax paper or brown paper toweling. They could use tape or staples to put their bag together. Their bags had to meet the following criteria: 3 closed sides, have a handle and be able to hold 3 scoops of candy corn. We began by looking at various types of bags noting what they all had in common as-well-as what made one bag more durable than another. The scholars also put to use their previous learned knowledge about foil and wax paper to use. The scholars discovered that having a strong/durable handle was very important to the success of their bag.

Sunny Sandbox

Our engineering challenge was to design a sandbox structure that would protect from the sun and rain. We began by testing the materials to determine those that met both criteria for sun and rain. We discovered that foil and yellow plastic passed both tests. Next we worked with our partner to determine the shape of our structure and the material we would use. Once we made our decisions, we made our sandbox covering. Finally we tested our coverings.
