The Chicks Are Hatching!

The day started with 5 chicks chipping away at their shells. By 11:00 two of the chicks had pecked their way out and were making some noise! When 12:45 rolled around 2 more chicks were out and the four chicks were 'talking' up a storm! Now all of first grade is chirping about the days events and speculating as to what will happen next!

Our Remaining How To Presentations

On Wednesday, Hudson demonstrated how to make Kool-Ade, he even brought some cups to give the class a taste! Then on Thursday, Robert demonstrated how to draw Mario, this was a big hit with the boys! Jatin demonstrated how to make a germinator. He brought enough materials for the class so his demonstration became a teaching experience! Emma finished the day demonstrating how to make a ham and cheese star sandwich. Emma brought enough ingredients for the entire class to make a sandwich; this was a perfect treat to hold us over until lunch. For our final day of how to presentations, Jada demonstrated how to dress for Spring and Akacia demonstrated how to make a peanut butter and honey sandwich.

Tuesday's How To Presentations

Today, Ace, Aubri and Adriana presented their How To's. Ace got our tummies going when he demonstrated how to make a mini pizza. This was followed by another mouth watering demonstration by Adriana who showed how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Aubri finished day two by teaching us how to tie our shoes!

How To Presentations

Trevor, Sutton, Victor and Preslee were the first to present their How To demonstrations. Trevor demonstrated how to bake chocolate chip cookie. Sutton, how to put on hockey gear. Victor how to get a bowl of cereal ready and Preslee how to plant rose seeds. These 4 scholars got things off to a fantastic start!

The Chick Eggs Have Arrived!

First grade will spend the next 21 days or so watching and waiting for the chicks to hatch. During this time they will be learning many things about chicks starting with the life cycle. To keep informed, check out the scholar's blogs.

Introducing King Dragon Warrior!

We have a betta fish, actually a Dragon Betta. The class voted and we have named him, King Dragon Warrior. We know he is a male because the males are larger and their fins are more 'feathery'. The scholars really enjoy watching KDW catch his betta bugs every morning and afternoon.

WORMS!

We are learning about worms, plants, soil and compost. The scholars enjoyed some hands on learning and direct observation of these wiggly friends! Using hand lens, they were able to locate the rings signifying the neck, their accordion like movement, the slime trail they leave and how they tunnel into the soil.
