Fables and Engineering

During our study of Fables, we were able to incorporate engineering. While reading The Ants and the Grasshopper, we learned There's a time for work and a time for play. Our engineering challenge was to help the grasshopper invent and build a tool to help the ant collect food next summer. The scholars worked in pairs to design and build this tool using only the materials provided. Next we read, The Boy and the Filberts. The lesson we learned from this Fable was, Do not attempt too much at once. For the engineering challenge, the scholars worked in pairs to design and build a tool that would help them get a paper clip out of the bottom of a jar. The scholars had much fun reading Fables, learning lessons and using engineering!
